What is it all about? Cannabidiol, better known as CBD, is a natural hemp extract. In ancient times, our ancestors used to make clothes, ship equipment, and ropes from this plant. In ancient Greece and the Roman Empire, it was used as a medicine for ailments of joints and ears. But all is not that simple. There are hundreds of cannabinoids produced from hemp, of which just two: tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) are important for this article. THC is a psychoactive and controlled substance, while CBD is not a drug but can be used to improve mood and relieve muscle tension. CBD is officially approved in over 25 states in the USA and some European countries where CBD oil can be legally purchased in online stores. For example, in the Czech Republic, since 2010, every November a festival dedicated to this plant has been held. Many analysts predict that cannabis might be legalized throughout the USA in near future.
In Russia, the possession and distribution of any kind of marijuana are punishable by law. However, in response to a relevant official request, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that CBD is not a controlled substance in the country.
Scientific experiments proving the healing effect of this plant extract, provoke new fashion trends. People now add cannabidiol into pet food, alcoholic cocktails; hemp oil is actively used as a salad dressing.
Of course, the beauty industry could not ignore this trend.
In April 2019, the famous fashion model and actress Kim Kardashian arranged a spa bachelorette party in the courtyard of her house to celebrate the birth of the fourth child. The guests did yoga and applied cosmetics that contained CBD. The star chose such a theme for the party for a reason. “I wanted the guests to relax and enjoy themselves. The CBD oil improves mood, well-being and is great for the beauty and health of the skin,” explained Kim.
Indeed, according to research from the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB), CBD was found to have antioxidant properties, and the saturated fatty acids of the plant oil are able to nourish the skin, eliminate dryness, flaking, irritation, and increase its elasticity. It is, of course, impossible to have any psychoactive effects (get high) with one drop of cream or emulsion, but you can remove uncomfortable sensations. If you look at the chemical composition of the oil, you will find omega 3 and 6, mineral components (phosphorus, zinc, sulfur, iodine), retinol, a complex of vitamins A, B, D, and E, carotene, and tocopherol. By the way, long before the hemp beauty boom, its ingredients were used to deeply moisturize and restore the skin’s hydrolipid balance. Its special tinctures were widely used in the treatment of eczema, scars, dermatitis, and psoriasis.
The cosmetics industry offers a great variety of products containing CBD, such as hemp oil repair shampoos, bioactive haircare, masks for dry and damaged hair with hemp extract, micellar body sprays with hemp oil, hemp oil face masks, lip balms, Eau de parfum, and hemp face creams.
In addition, hemp has a beneficial effect on hair and nails. CBD oil normalizes the work of the sebaceous glands, makes a long-term effect to remove dandruff, stimulates curling and prevents hair fall and brittle hair, moisturizes and brightens your hair. It is true salvation for thin and lifeless hair.
